The family of a Carmarthen sporting stalwart has been thanked for a huge cash donation which has allowed for a new wet room and bed at Glangwili Hospital. Barbara Cobain, her daughter Lucy and niece Norma Jones together with other family members and friends raised a staggering £11,049 for the Steffan Ward at the hospital to have a dedicated wet room for patients. The fundraising was half of a £22,098 raised through a raffle and dinner in memory of Barbara’s late husband Keith – a well known sportsman in the town.
Now a plaque has been unveiled at the hospital to mark the wet room and bed.
The cash raised was handed to to the Glangwili Hospital League of Friends and then spent on the wet room construction and bed.
The League of Friends along with Mrs Cobain, were thanked by staff and specialists at a special presentation afternoon at the hospital on the 1st of May 2015.
League members were praised for their handling of large donations such as that from the Cobain family over the years.
During the financial year 2014 and 2015 a total of £132,546 has been spent on equipment across the hospital thanks to generous fundraising.
